Being an Irish bar is more than just serving Guinness and serving shots of Irish whiskey. An Irish bar is about heritage, it’s about family and it’s about creating that home away from home feeling that we like to call ‘having the craic.’ Hibernia serves Guinness 20oz Imperial Pints and a large selection of Irish Whiskies including the full line of Tullamore Dew. It is Irish owned and staffed and is conveniently located in the heart of Hell’s Kitchen New York City. Hibernia Bar really is the genuine article.
The best part about Hibernia Bar is that our food is quality and the prices are better than what you’ll get in some of the other bars in the neighborhood. Our kitchen is open late and we pride ourselves on not only having the best wings and burgers, but our Irish food is top notch featuring traditional Irish staples such as: shepherd’s pie, fish and chips, Guinness lamb stew, corned beef and cabbage, Tayto Crisps, toasties, rasher sandwiches and the Irish fry up. Outside of our menu we do have daily or weekly specials up on the chalkboard.
We are the best sports bar in Hell’s Kitchen and air as many games as possible whether it be the GAA, All Ireland Finals, Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Mets, rugby, hockey, and baseball. If you are on holiday and can’t find your game, you can give us a call and chances are that we’ll open especially for you. It doesn’t matter where you sit, every seat is a good seat in the house with all of our TVs.
Our staff is warm, open and very hospitable. We know that when someone is looking for a true Irish bar, they know that ‘there are no strangers here, just friends you’ve yet to meet.’ It’s our Irish hospitality that makes Hibernia Bar a true Irish bar. When you’re away from home, wherever you’re from, it’s good to talk to someone knowing that they are genuinely going to engage in conversation with you. You will always get that same comfort level at Hibernia Bar as you would at a bar in the Emerald Isle.
Aidan Fogarty, co-owner of Hibernia, began his bartending career at The Brazen Head, Ireland’s oldest bar. The Brazen Head has had an amazing history and Aidan is proud to have tended bar there. Countless of famous celebrities and famous Irish Folk have passed through there, such as the likes of James Joyce, Jonathan Swift, The Dubliners, Van Morrison, Paolo Nutini, Tom Jones to name a few. Hibernia has seen a few celebrities in its time as well, Alan Cummings, Mark Cuban, Kate Beckinsale, Jimmy Fallon, Joe Buck as well as several famous athletes and musicians. We love live music and often plenty of sessions have been known to break out on a whim. We have featured many live music acts from Ireland as well, such as Susan O’Neill (one of Bono’s favorites) and the Bachstreet Boyz, Niall McBride and Ross Maguire.
Hibernia also has the best St. Patrick’s Day celebration this side of the pond. We are known for our Paddy’s Day festivities which includes bag pipers, countless of free giveaways, classic Irish food as well as an opportunity to meet some of NYC’s best as they party all day through the night. Be on the lookout for our very own Leprechauns who show up to jig and give away whiskey and may even adorn you with some gold. To add to that celebration, Hibernia also sends someone to Ireland for a week long trip every year.
Even though we’re in America, when you step into Hibernia Bar you know you’re not in just any Irish bar. We’ve made sure to bring the culture and the spirit of Ireland to this corner in Manhattan and even when you step out and walk down that busy New York City street you’ll know that you’ve found your home away from home.
