New York Comic Con is a great fan experience for those who love television, movies, anime, comics, video games, cosplay, graphic novels and toys. Super popular since its inception back in 2006, the convention has brought in popular guests like Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin, Stan Lee and Todd McFarlane, just to name a few. When you visit New York Comic Con this year you’ll see some of the old, but a lot of the new.
So what is it that makes tens of thousands of people flock to this event each year and what can you expect at this year’s New York Comic Con?
A Hybrid Virtual/In-Person Event
This year’s convention will be held as a hybrid event that will feature plenty of cool stuff online and all of the amazing events and experiences that you have come to expect in person too. Digital events will run online during the same time frame as the live events, from Thursday, October 7 through Sunday, October 10 at the Javitz Center.
Safety First
To enter the event you will be asked to prove that you have had your COVID-19 vaccination (bring your card). If you have a child under the age of twelve, they must have tested negative for COVID-19 and have a vaccinated parent or guardian accompanying them. All entrants must wear a face mask at all times (exceptions for eating and drinking). If you aren’t comfortable with this policy, then the online events are a great option for you. Expect to see plexiglass used to protect both exhibitors and guests. You will also need to purchase badges for both the online and in-person events.
Why Attend New York Comic Con In-Person?
For one thing, you can rest assured that the organizers of the event, ReedPop, aren’t taking any chances. Safety is their top priority above all else. If you feel comfortable with the crowd, what are the other reasons to come out in-person for New York Comic Con?
Photo and Autograph Opportunities
Yes, autographs can be ordered, but that isn’t exactly the same thing as the experience of meeting your favorite celebrities and getting a chance to have those photo and autograph opportunities in-person and creating those memories.
Unique Fandoms
Comic Con presents a great opportunity for smaller fan bases and more unique fan bases to have a chance to both promote and enjoy their celebrities and characters. This is an outstanding opportunity for fans of writers, artists, wrestlers and cosplayers.
Unique Merchandise and Souvenirs
You will not find or be able to purchase any more unique merchandise and souvenirs anywhere than you are at New York Comic Con. With an assembly of so many amazing vendors and their guests as well as featured guests and panels there are ample opportunities to shop fandom items and collectables.
