A Fantasy Guide for Steelers’ Fans
Throughout the years Steelers fans have been graced with many glorious seasons from great teams with electric players. Players like LeVeon Bell, Antonio Brown and Big Ben have been hot commodities for fantasy drafts. But, like any great thing, this had to come to an end. In the past few years, the Steelers have moved on from just about everyone but Big Ben and Mike Tomlin. This has paved the way for new stars to be born! Recent draft picks like Diontae Johnson, Chase Claypool, and Najee Harris are the emerging offensive talent to watch.
Najee Harris, the Steelers’ electric first round pick out of Alabama is immediately expected fill the hole that James Conner left when he signed with the Cardinals this offseason. This offseason, Harris has shown great potential and promise out of the backfield with his downfield power, crazy athleticism, and elusive quickness. According to The Ringer, Harris is expected to hover around the back end of the top ten in rankings for the 2021 fantasy draft. If you have a pick between 7-12 this year, Najee Harris might be a great early sleeper choice for your RB1 spot in lieu of players ranked higher or near him at his position. Players like Chargers’ RB Austin Ekeler, Bengals RB Joe Mixon, and Colts RB Johnathon Taylor are all great players with great fantasy upside this season, but with the Steelers’ high-powered offense and Najee Harris’ diverse skillset mixed with a rookie’s drive to prove himself Harris ranks higher than those players according to these unbiased Steelers’ fans.
The Steelers’ third-round pick of the 2019 NFL draft Diontae Johnson emerges as Big Ben’s number one target this year and is ranked in the top fifty players in the draft in almost every draft projection. However, Johnson is not the lone receiver to draft from the Steelers’ this season, last year’s rookie sensation, Chase Claypool comes in ranked around the top fifty players in this year’s draft and is poised to have a great sophomore season as Big Ben’s number two target this year. This talented duo is must-watch TV and are primed to be very valuable WR2’s on any fantasy team.
Don’t forget about that hard-nosed Steelers defense either, last year’s number one defense has kept their squad mostly intact and are projected to be one of the first three defenses taken, ranking just behind the stout defenses of the Los Angeles Rams and the Washington Football Team. Keep your eye on when defenses start to get picked, the Steelers D/ST might be a favorite for defenses drafted early.
