2022 MLB Playoffs Picture
Whether you are a fan of the Mets in the AL or the Yankees in the NL, you have plenty to cheer for this year.
While the Dodgers were the first team to clinch a spot in the 2022 MLB Playoffs, both New York teams have already claimed their spots as well.
This has truly been a historic baseball season. There were new rules that added players to the All-Star game. The Home Run Derby Finals matchup paired the two youngest players in its history. The Mets set an MLB record for the most hit batters in a season (102). Albert Pujols finally hit his 701st career home run. Aaron Judge chased a historical record and caught it.
After such a terrific regular season, you won’t want to miss the MLB playoffs at an amazing Irish bar this year. The 2022 MLB playoffs promise to bring even more record breaking excitement.
Let’s take a look at how the Yankees and the Mets found their way into the playoffs.
NY Yankees
They are perennial favorites and for fans who watched the Yankee’s schedule all year, their standing was never really in question. By adding Bader and others before the trade deadline, they started the season off right. This will be the franchise’s sixth straight appearance in the MLB Playoffs.
Yankee fans have big expectations, and they are warranted. It’s been a winning season. We’ve all enjoyed watching the Aaron Judge home run count.
However, the season has been plagued with injuries. They will face the Astros in Houston. This is also their sixth consecutive playoff appearance. It should be a spectacular series to watch!
NY Mets
For the first time in more than a decade and a half, the Mets will be in the 2022 MLB Playoffs.
The franchise has broken its fair share of records this season, too. Jacob deGrom allowed three or less earned runs which was a new MLB record. Less than a week later, Pete Alonso broke the team’s single season RBI record.
No matter how their season ends, this will be one of the best seasons that the Mets have had in years and the future is looking really bright.
2022 MLB Expanded Playoffs
This will be the first season of the expanded playoff format which now includes a total of 12 teams. There will be six division winners, half from the NL, and half from the AL. There will also be six wild card teams, half from the NL, and half from the AL.
The lowest division winner plays the lowest wild card team. The top two wild card teams play each other. They play in a best of three series to determine their standings. The top two divisional winners get a bye.
There is no reseeding after the wild card round.
When Do The 2022 MLB Playoffs Start?
The wild card best of three games will be held by both the NL and the AL starting on October 7, 2022. The Division Series will be held four days later on Tuesday, October 11 and the World Series at the end of October.
