The Cincinnati Bengals Vs The Los Angeles Rams
The Bengals defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship to advance to the Super Bowl, while the Rams defeated the San Francisco 49ers to advance. Here’s a look at the two contenders.
The Bengals
The Bengals drafted Joe Burrow from LSU and surely had high hopes that this would all happen. However, the Bengals path to Super Bowl LVI likely began in earnest based on one simple request that Burrow made of his new organization. After his rookie year, and a torn ACL, he asked that they draft Ja’Marr Chase, his LSU teammate, instead of an offensive lineman. Chase made crucial plays all throughout the playoffs and in the AFC Championship game.
The Bengals haven’t been to the Super Bowl since 1988. They also hadn’t won a playoff game since 1988. This isn’t the same Bengals team you have seen before and there is no telling what the ceiling is for its young stars in Super Bowl LVI.
The Rams
The Rams also have a new quarterback, but Matt Stafford is anything but new to the NFL. He spent a grueling decade playing for the Detroit Lions, who have never appeared in a Super Bowl or even a conference championship.
During the offseason, Stafford met with Rams head coach Sean McVay by sheer coincidence. They were both vacationing in Cabo and over margaritas, the Rams found their new quarterback. A beautiful partnership was born and a winning season ensued.
No one deserves a chance to play in Super Bowl LVI more than Stafford who has finally found himself with a real contender. This will be the Rams fifth appearance at the Super Bowl. They won Super Bowl XXXIV in January of 2000. They most recently appeared in the Super Bowl three years ago losing to the New England Patriots.
