The 2022 NBA Summer League provides the first chance to see the Nets and Knicks newly drafted players as well as some free agent pick-ups. While at times it may have looked like the New York teams were battling to be crowned the king of dysfunction, it’s the Nets and Knicks rookies and new additions that give fans hope.
2022 NBA Summer League
The NBA Summer League 2022 starts in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 7. ESPN will provide the majority of coverage for the games.
The NBA Summer League is a nice break from the drama of veteran players like Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. While contact negotiations and trade talks will still headline top NBA news, fans and critics alike will be getting their first look at each team’s new additions.
We won’t see players like Patty Mills and Nick Claxton, both recently re-signed with the Nets, or Jalen Brunson newly signed with the Knicks. What we will see is a fresh crop of talent including Trevor Keels for the Knicks and last year’s Summer League MVP for the Nets Cam Thomas.
Nets Summer League Roster
The Nets open their summer league with a game against the Milwaukee Bucks. Here are the top players on the Brooklyn Nets Summer League 2022 roster:
- Cam Thomas– Second-year player who lit up the court last year in the summer league and saw plenty of playing time during the season. He’s looking to improve on his rookie average of 8.5 points per game during the season.
- Day’Ron Sharpe– Played well when he was given an opportunity by the Nets last January. He’s looking to secure a role on the Nets roster this coming season.
- David Duke, Jr.- Split time between the Nets and Long Island last year. Duke has a lot to prove if he wants to spend next season with the Nets.
- Alondes Williams– The former ACC Player of the Year was averaging 18.5 points per game in college last year. It will be exciting to see what he brings to the table as a professional.
- Noah Kirkwood– All-Ivy First Team at Harvard and gold medalist at the FIBA U19 World Championships. He was averaging 18 points per game last season. Kirkwood should be another great addition for the Nets.
Knicks Summer League Roster
Coached by Dice Yoshimoto, the Knicks open their summer league with a game against reigning champs, the Golden State Warriors. Our first Look at the Nets and Knicks rookies bring us the top players on the New York Knicks Summer League 2022 roster:
- Trevor Keels– Trevor Keels comes from Duke University’s powerhouse program and was the only “big name” drafted by the Knicks. The Summer League is his first chance to live up to big expectations..
- Garrison Brooks– Second Team All-ACC at North Carolina for four years, Brooks finished his career in the SEC at Mississippi State before being drafted by the Knicks.
- Vince Edwards– First-Team All-Big 10 at Purdue University. He spent most of last year with Utah’s G-league affiliate. Edwards is hoping to play full-time for the Knicks this year.
- Feron Hunt– Hunt debuted for the Knicks back in April, but we’ve had little chance to see what he might do. The 2022 NBA Summer League should answer a lot of questions.
- Quentin Grimes– Grimes was a top scorer for the Knicks in last year’s Summer League but then spent most of the season in the G League. Will this summer be when he takes a big step forward?
