Every Sunday Steeler Nation gathers at Hibernia Bar to cheer on their team. We love the yellow and black and we are always rooting for them, but what is going on this season? Is there a reason for hope or is this season already over with?
We are about to break down for you exactly what is happening inside the Steelers football team, what is just media hype, and what you really should be worried about as a Steeler fan.
Matt Canada is Still Around
Matt Canada has to be one of the most hated men in all of Pittsburgh, and he is also very hated by sports media. The fact is that Canada isn’t doing a great job, but he also doesn’t have the team playing as badly as the Giants or other bottom dwellers.
Yes, Canada should go, but in sports, timing is everything. It is better to find a good offensive coordinator with a strong resume during the off-season than it is to destabilize the team now. While Canada isn’t the reason for their successes, he isn’t the only reason for some of the failures either.
Kenny Pickett is Calling the Shots
Okay, so Kenny Pickett may not have the keys to the car just yet, but he is definitely allowed to take it for a spin. It was Pickett’s audible that ended up winning the Steelers a game.
While many Steeler fans want to use this as an example to point out the failings of Canada, the fact is we should be rejoicing in the growth of Pickett. He may be in a bit of the “sophomore slump”, but we can still see him growing and improving in every game.
Is There a Problem with Pickens?
George Pickens came to the Steelers as a very high draft pick from a national championship college team. Pickens is not used to struggling. He’s not used to losing. He also may be lacking a little in maturity. In other words, his emotions may not be as mature as his gameplay is. However, in a world of diva receivers, Pickens certainly isn’t the worst or even an extreme case.
Yes, Pickens has thrown a couple of temper tantrums and he liked a tweet that shaded Pickett, but it was all “in the heat of the moment” stuff. Pickens is dedicated to his team and his quarterback. He has a great staff of coaches supporting him. The Pickett-to-Pickens connection is still strong and still winning games. There is nothing to worry about here.
Final Word on the Steelers
With a 4-2 record heading into November, Steeler Nation shouldn’t be too worried. No team is perfect, but we have our defense and our franchise guy. Perhaps the best quality about Pickett is his ability to will his team to win. That is likely to carry Pittsburgh far.
